Upcoming Meetings

The June 28 will both be Open Discussion meetings for parents and other family members. We hope to see you there! The July meeting will be the picnic (see below). We’ve decided not schedule a meeting for August as the meeting always coincides with the start of school and it gets to be a challenging week for parents. We’re starting to schedule speakers for the fall. Let us know if you have any suggestions.

Summer Picnic – Save the Date!

We will hold the summer picnic on Sunday July 24 at Stratton Brook State Park in Simsbury. It will be a casual get together for the entire family. We’ll picnic between 12 and 4 and have grills for cooking and games to play. Please bring your own meats to grill and a dish to share. Let Lee or Shawn know if you will be attending so we can plan accordingly. You can call us at 860-589-0097 or email us at info@favan.org.

A Story From School

A mother of one of the boys classmates shared a story with us a few weeks ago that truly touched us. When she met with her child’s Kindergarten teacher, the teacher told her that there was a child in the class with autism. The teacher went on to say that her child had reached out and connected with the child more than anyone else in the class. The mother was so proud that she found it hard to pay attention to anything else the teacher said in the meeting. She was touched because her child, by reaching out to someone who was different, was acting out what she believes “life is all about.” With all the challenges that come with children on the spectrum in school, it’s wonderful to know that there are caring parents and children around our own kids.

Upcoming Events

Schedules are starting to come out for fall and winter conferences. We’ll update the schedules on the web site (www.favan.org) as we receive information.
