Recently Added Conferences and Workshops
We recently added several workshops to the Conference Page. CT additions include workshops on Play Skills, Facilitating Social Skills, and Sensory in the Classroom all sponsored by the CT-ASRC. Also added is a two day conference in Providence titled "Identifying and Building Strengths and Nurturing Talents" featuring some very well known speakers.
Other Area Meetings
The Autism Society of Connecticut has upcoming meetings with guest speakers including author Susan Senator, author David Kirby, as well as Temple Grandin and Brenda Smith-Myles speaking at the annual conference on April 29. Details can be found on the Autism Society of Connecticut Calendar.
Thursday, February 2, 2006 - The Spectrum Unplugged - Panel of Teenagers and Young Adults with Asperger's and Related Issues. Sponsored by the Focus Alternative Learning Center in Canton. They will present their perspectives and experiences with time for questions and answers. Winsted, CT. Contact Sharon Cable at 693-9128 for more information.

Connecticut Legislative Activities
Connecticut is one of only three states not providing services to adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The CT-ASRC is actively involved in influencing the passage of legislation to establish a pilot program for services in Connecticut. A Spanish language edition of Autism Spectrum Disorders from A to Z, has been published. Information is available at http://www.asdatoz.com/.
The University of Connecticut Health Center Library offers a service called Healthnet for Connecticut residents. Professionals are available to research a topic for you and provide a free packet of information for you. Additionally, the resources of the library are also available to the public. Harcourt Assessment, Inc., is developing a new questionnaire that will, when published, give school professionals important information about how a child learns and processes information using sensory data. A graduate student at Harvard is looking for families of children who have been diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome (AS) at least one year ago to participate in a new Harvard Psychology Research Study. Contact Erin at emaher@fas.harvard.edu
