Upcoming MeetingsWe're starting our regular meeting schedule on Tuesday, September 30. The meeting schedule through July 2009 can be found on the FAVAN website. AnnouncementsWe've been fortunate to have a FAVAN family donate quite a few additions to our library. The new books, and others, have been added to the library listing on the website. The Connecticut State Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education is holding several meetings to solicit public input on issues, and solutions related to teaching individuals with Autism. The meetings are titled A Facilitated Discussion about Teaching Individuals with Autism and Other Developmental Disabilities. The closest meetings locations are:

The CT Autism Spectrum Resource Center is holding a 10 week sibling support group for children with brothers or sisters on the autism spectrum. Contact ASRC for more information at 203-265-7717. ConferencesA list of conferences and seminars has been updated on the web site. As of the time of this writing, CT-SERC had not yet published their schedule. The website will be updated once the schedule is published. Other ResourcesWe encourage all families to explore the services and programs offered by other organizations in Connecticut. The largest and most active organizations are the Connecticut Autism Spectrum Resource Center, The Autism Society of Connecticut, and The Connecticut Families for Effective Autism Treatment. All of these organization have resources or support groups focused on supporting autistic individuals and their families. Email ProblemsWe've found that some Internet Service Providers are flagging the FAVAN newsletters as spam. We know that AT&T / SBC / Yahoo's email service is often flagging the messages as spam and placing them in a "junk mail" folder. You need to read your mail via their on-line mail service and look in the junk folder to find them. We're looking at ways of avoiding this but it's largely outside our control. As a precaution, adding info@favan.org to your address book or "whitelist" in your email system may help prevent this in the future. If you're reading this on the web site and wondering why you have not received newsletters via email, this could be the reason. |
