The next meeting of FAVAN will be January 26 at 7 pm at the Farmington Community Center. This will be an open discussion meeting. February's meeting will feature Shannon Knall of Austism Speaks who will update us on legislation about ASD..

Open Discussion Regarding Respite Care Option and Social Outing Opportunities for Families with Children with Special Needs

Plymouth SEPTA will host a discussion with Beth Nyerick, Special Educator. Beth has started a business providing respite care for children with various disabilities. She is interested in networking with parents to find out what type of services parents might be intererested in. She provides the respite in the family's home for short evenings out or overnight care or weekend care. She is also available to provide social outings for special needs children. Beth is a special education teacher with 25 years of experience and has worked with children from preschool to adulthood with a range of special needs.

The meeting is February 3, 2010 at 7:00pm at Fisher Elementary School, 79 N. Main Street, Terryville, CT

Story Time for Children 3-8

Bishop's Corner Branch Library 15 Starkel Road West Hartford is holding a drop in storytime for children on the autism spectrum .Children ages 3-8 and their families are welcome.  There will be  Simple stories, fingerplays, songs and sensory activities.
No registration required. Questions call 860-561-8210. Dates are:

Support Group for Parents of Teens

Connecticut Autism Spectrum Resource Center ("ASRC") is running a support group for parents of teens on the autism spectrum (ages 14-21).
The meeting dates are:

  • January 25 - will be discussing Summer Activities and Programming
    March 1
    April 5
    May 3
    June 7 (if people want to have a June meeting)

ASCONN 20th Annual Statewide Conference on Autism

Autism Day at CoCo Key Water Resort

Sunday, January 31st, 7:00 - 9:30 am. Admission is $13.00 per person (normally $29.00 pp). Book your day passes for this event by going to http://tickets.cocokeywaterresort.com  and the password is Autism Speaks (with the space). Scroll to the bottom and you will see the Autism Speaks special rate to purchase tickets there.  Overnight packages are available. 

Creative Interventions, LLC is forming social skills groups for Winter 2010 for children on the Autism Spectrum ages 3 to 12.  Groups will be held at :
